Dutch Culture: Three kisses

What is all this kissing about? Who kisses who and when is the right moment to greet someone with three kisses. Below we hope to give you some tips and rules.

1. New acquaintances should be greeted with a handshake. For friends it’s a kiss (3
   times) on the cheeks; 
2. Kisses however, are not given to anyone; they are strictly reserved for friends and
   relatives only;
3. These kisses are not actually real kisses as you might have noticed, but are more
   like air kisses;
4. Men generally only kiss women.

Confused? Who would have thought that a simple little greeting could have such a confusing set of rules.
